Alfonsi Daquigan delivered a standout weekend in Round 5 of the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia. The 16-year-old Filipino took both races to complete a clean sweep and move up in the title fight.
Daquigan’s opening race served a double long-lap penalty but kept his pace, worked back through the pack, and still crossed the line first. The win counted as his first Asia Talent Cup victory and made him the first Filipino rider to top a race in the series.
In Race 2, Daquigan stayed with the front group, chose his passes well, and closed out the weekend with another win. The back-to-back results pushed him to third in the overall standings after Round 5 and kept his championship hopes alive heading into the final stretch of the season.
Racing the best young riders from across Asia, Daquigan showed composure in traffic and maturity in managing penalties and late-race fights. He also put the Philippine flag firmly on the map in a development series known for producing future Grand Prix talents.
Honda Philippines has long backed programs that help young riders step up to international competition. Daquigan’s Mandalika double is the latest sign that Filipino talent can win on this stage when given the right support and opportunities.
The wins offered a clear example to young riders at home that discipline, fitness, and daily practice add up on race day. Daquigan heads into the next round with momentum and a growing belief that he can finish the season among the top contenders.
