New Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II has ordered regional directors nationwide to submit all franchise issuance data within a week, as he moves to confront long-standing public transport challenges in urban areas.
Mendoza said the data should include all units authorized to operate and how many remain active.
“We must gather the data so we can make proper decisions. The Filipino people can expect decision-making based on solid data that will help millions of commuters,” Mendoza said.
He added that the consolidation and review of the information respond directly to instructions from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. to Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to prioritize commuter welfare.
“Our people endure so much in commuting, from going to work or school and then returning home — every day. We want to speed up action,” Mendoza said in Filipino. He emphasized that resolving transportation issues starts with accurate, complete data.
Mendoza and his team point to past accomplishments as proof of what can be done. He previously helped eliminate an 11-year backlog of license plates in two years while leading the Land Transportation Office (LTO), with the support of President Marcos.
He also addressed shortages in plastic driver’s license cards and security paper for LTO document printing. In his new role, Mendoza said he will apply the same energy toward easing commuters’ lives.
“The President supports any step that makes commuters’ lives easier. At LTFRB, we will ensure that in the New Philippines, commuters win through effective service delivered with integrity,” he said.
