Aris Dimaunahan stepped down as head coach a year after leading National University (NU) to the Season 87 title of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s basketball tournament.
Gilas Women head coach Patrick Aquino made the confirmation, saying that Dimaunahan’s resignation as head coach took effect on 31 July so that he can focus on his chores as part of the coaching staff of Blackwater coach Jefferey Cariaso in the Philippine Basketball Association.
With Dimaunahan out, longtime deputy D.A. Olan will take over the coaching role as well as the task of leading the Lady Bulldogs in their title-retention campaign in the coming Season 88 this September.
Dimaunahan took over the NU head coaching role from Aquino, who opted to concentrate on calling the shots for Gilas Pilipinas Women squad in the international arena, in Season 84. Dimaunahan and Aquino will be reunited at Blackwater with the former taking care of the guards while the latter honing the skills of the bigs.
“Yes, he already left NU so he can focus on Blackwater,” said Aquino in a telephone conversation with DAILY TRIBUNE.
