Siruma, Camarines Sur – Due to strong winds and currents, a vessel carrying construction materials ran aground in the vicinity waters of San Miguel Bay, Brgy. Matandang here on 7 August 2025.
According to Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL) Commander Commodore Ivan E Roldan PCG, the Coast Guard Station Camarines Sur immediately responded to the agrounding vessel LCT Golden Phoenix and rescued 13 Filipino crew members onboard.
He added that upon receiving the information by the CGMT Siruma personnel on the vessel, they immediately proceeded to the area to verify the incident and coordinate with concerned parties.
Initial attempts to conduct a full inspection were deferred due to unfavorable sea conditions.
The ship’s captain and shipping company representatives have since taken immediate action, including arranging for a hull inspection by divers and preparing necessary documentation for maritime procedures.
Follow-up investigations conducted by Coast Guard Sub Station Tamban together with Coast Guard Mobile Team Siruma and the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Reponse Group Bicol (MEP ERG BCL), revealed that the agrounding was caused by strong winds and currents in the area.
The team has also coordinated with local barangay officials and the vessel’s representatives to ensure proper reporting and compliance with maritime safety requirements.
The situation remains under monitoring, and no oil spill or environmental damage has been reported as of this release.
The CGDBCL reiterates its commitment to ensuring maritime safety and protecting the marine environment, and responding quickly and effectively to any emergency situations that may arise within its Area of Responsibility.
