Senator Loren Legarda has reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the University of the Philippines’ role in serving the nation, as she led the turnover of the newly renovated UP Visayas auditorium in Iloilo City on 9 August 2025.

“As an alumna and a four-term senator, I will remain committed to ensuring that UP has the facilities, programs, research, and cultural infrastructure it needs to serve the nation,” said Legarda, a proud Iskolar ng Bayan.

Her support for UPV spans years, from restoring the Little Theater in 2017 and building the Multi-Purpose Building for the UP High School in 2019, to funding the ongoing Administrative Services Building. She also backed the expansion of the Pandan campus in Antique, including the completion of its Extension Building.

Beyond infrastructure, Legarda has championed cultural initiatives — supporting the UP Visayas Museum of Arts and Cultural Heritage, forging partnerships with the Lopez Museum and Library, pushing for cultural mapping in Panay and Negros, and helping publish works on indigenous knowledge.

“With our continued partnership, we affirm that through the University of the Philippines, the country is repaid many times over — in knowledge, in culture, and in service,” she said.

Legarda stressed that these projects have a tangible impact: research that shapes ordinances, cultural assets integrated into tourism and education, fisherfolk whose incomes grow after training, and more engaged public participation in university life.
