First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos took a side trip to India’s main gateway during the five-day state visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the country.

Mrs. Marcos took a peek at the Indira Gandhi International Airport which accommodates over 77 million passengers a year. It boasts a design reflecting the rich culture of India, giving travelers a warm welcome.

“Blown away by the scale, efficiency, and thoughtful design of Indira Gandhi International Airport — India’s busiest and one of the best in the world,” she said.

“Every detail reflects a deep commitment to comfort, connectivity, and world-class service,” she added.

The First Lady said she hoped that one day the Philippines would be able to replicate the success the Indira Gandhi Airport exudes daily in its operations.

“Here’s hoping that someday we’ll bring the same seamless experience to travelers flying in and out of the Philippines. Kaya natin ito! (We can do this),” she said.

Under the Marcos administration, the operation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport was privatized to San Miguel Corp. for 25 years under a concession agreement.

Within this timeframe, stakeholders of the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. aim to elevate the current status of NAIA and turn it into a world-class gateway to the Philippines capable of handling over 60 million passengers a year.
