Access to the Internet is now considered a human right because of the many benefits it offers. Telecommunications company Globe recognizes this and is supporting the Digital Bayanihan spirit of the government or private-public partnership to bring connectivity to areas lacking such technology.

“Connectivity is a human right. Through stronger infrastructure and community programs, we help Filipinos access opportunities, public services and economic mobility,” Robert Aquino, assistant vice president for government relations at Globe, said during the Digital Bayanihan roadshow in Tawi-Tawi by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on 10 to 11 June.

The event coinciding with National ICT Month saw DICT and telco partners deploy telemedicine, e-governance and digital tools for education.

“Globe is proud to stand beside the national government in realizing the dream of a digitally empowered Philippines. Our work in Mindanao, especially in areas like Tawi-Tawi, reflects our belief that no one should be left behind in the digital age,” Aquino said.

In line with this vision, Globe has built and upgraded around 2,000 cell sites across Mindanao in 2024 and continues to expand its fiber footprint to deliver reliable mobile and broadband connectivity where it is needed most.

Complementing Globe’s infrastructure investments are its educational campaign to promote responsible and purposeful use of the internet and use of digital tools for personal and collective development as well as for building resilience and uplifting local economies.
