
TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental — Fishermen in this coastal town stumbled upon a dying Fraser’s dolphin along the shores of Macajalar Bay in Purok 3, San Vicente, Casinglot on Friday.
Witnesses said the marine mammal appeared weak and visibly in distress when it was spotted, prompting locals to immediately alert authorities. Personnel from Barangay Casinglot, led by barangay captain Mario Bolanio, and the Municipal Agriculture Office of Tagoloan responded to the scene.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the dolphin died shortly after it was found. Fisheries officials conducted an autopsy before burying the animal.
Authorities are still determining the cause of the stranding and the dolphin’s death.
The local government is reminding residents that if they encounter any marine animals washed ashore, they should avoid touching or disturbing them and instead report the sighting to the Municipal Agriculture Office or their barangay officials.
