Marvin Asis is the last Filipino standing as he made it to the Round of 16 of the Florida Open Pool Championship in Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando on Saturday.

Asis defeated Konrad Juszczyszyn of Poland, 10-8, in the Round of 32 as his bids to win the $40,000 prize pot.

The 25-year-old player will be going up against home bet Shane Van Boening in the Last 16.

Other Filipino bets weren’t as lucky as they fell short in the Round of 32.

Newly-crowned world champion Carlo Biado might have pulled off a 10-5 win over Vitaly Pastura of Ukraine in the Round of 64, but he lost to former European champion Mickey Krause of Denmark, 6-10, in the Last 32.

Johann Chua was also booted out of the Round of 32 after a 4-10 loss to Francisco Sanchez Ruiz while Bernie Regalario fell short against Moritz Neuhausen, 6-10.

Meanwhile, Patric Gonzales suffered a 5-10 loss to Elliot Sanderson of Scotland in the Round of 64 while Lee Vann Corteza also succumbed to Ruiz, 6-10, in the same round.

Harry Vergara lost to Regalario, 5-10, in an all-Filipino affair in the Last 64 while Roberto Gomez fell short after a 7-10 defeat to Aloysius Yapp of Singapore.

Biado, Chua and Regalario are set to receive $2,000 (P 113,500) for making it as far as the Round of 32.

On the other hand, Gonzales, Corteza and Vergara will get a $ 1,000 (P 56,750) for getting into the Round of 64.
