Bulacan is a province rich in traditional arts, with a cultural landscape as diverse as it is vibrant — from the jewelry-making industry of Meycauayan to the intricate pabalat of San Miguel and Malolos.
Among its notable crafts are the singkaban or decorative bamboo arches; the buntal hat and bone-inlay furniture of Baliwag; the delicately carved dayap of San Miguel; puni, the traditional leaf art of Malolos; and the elegant baro’t saya of Pandi.
The province is also known for its delectable culinary offerings such as Serkele (a savory blood stew), Lumlum (a local milkfish dish), Empanada de Kaliskis, Chicharon, Inipit, Minasa, and the luscious pastillas.
In terms of built heritage, Bulacan is home to many historically significant structures. These include the iconic Barasoain Church in Malolos, the centuries-old churches of Bulakan and San Rafael, and the ancestral houses in Malolos. The province also abounds in event venues, resorts, and specialty restaurants, earning its reputation as the de facto events and resort capital of Northern Luzon.
Its proximity to Metro Manila makes Bulacan an ideal destination not only for tourists but also for milestone events such as weddings. With its complete offerings — from heritage churches and scenic venues to traditional cuisine, experienced planners and capable hosts — Bulacan has become a one-stop hub for memorable celebrations.
Organization
A decade ago, Bulacan’s events industry players came together to form a pioneering organization aimed at streamlining and professionalizing event management within the province and beyond.
The Bulacan Event Services Association (BESA), the first of its kind in the country in terms of member diversity and scope, now stands as a premier institution offering systematic and holistic event organizing. Its members are bound by a shared commitment to deliver top-tier services not only in Bulacan but also across the region, in Metro Manila, and other parts of the country.
BESA has built a strong reputation for excellence in managing weddings, life events, corporate functions, and other celebrations. It remains a model organization in the industry.
Anniversary
BESA recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with a grand Filipiniana-themed gathering held at the historic Maynila Ballroom of The Manila Hotel.
The event featured a mini-exhibit showcasing exquisite jewelry from Meycauayan and intricate puni art by Punique of Malolos.
During the celebration, the group honored outstanding members including Bistro Maloleño led by Ferdie Talbanito, Taverna by Bahay na Tisa, and Thematic Events. Past presidents and staunch supporters such as the Bulacan Provincial History, Arts, Culture, and Tourism Office were also recognized.
Special awards were conferred on exemplary Bulaqueño talents in the events industry: renowned fashion designer Francis Libiran of Balagtas; seasoned wedding planner Kutchie Zaldarriaga of Malolos; events planner Jeffrey Sitchon of Paombong; and celebrated event designer Teddy Manuel, also from Paombong.
Malolos councilor John Vincent Vitug, speaking on behalf of mayor Christian Natividad, praised the camaraderie among event suppliers in Bulacan, noting how competitors have united to uphold the common goal of providing seamless and quality service.
Governor Daniel Fernando, through his representative Crispin de Luna, lauded the organization for its role in promoting Bulacan’s heritage and events industry — a sentiment echoed by vice governor Alex Castro, who graced the event in person.
A celebration
Under the leadership of president Josephine Murillo-Cruz and vice president Arvin Pingol, BESA continues to thrive.
“This is not just a celebration of the past,” Pingol remarked. “It is also a celebration of the many years ahead — of collaboration, of success, and of friendship.”
He added, “I hope that our partnership will deepen further, and that our mission to provide quality service for the benefit of all will continue. Our 10-year journey is a milestone truly worth celebrating.”
