LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — As clearing operations continue, the municipal government of La Trinidad is laying out plans to improve its flood control and drainage system in response to recurring issues brought on by heavy rains and weather disturbances.

Mayor Roderick Awingan emphasized the need for long-term solutions to address the town’s flooding problems, particularly during typhoons and periods of sustained rainfall. He stressed that these plans must be developed in coordination with national and local agencies, especially the Department of Public Works and Highways, to ensure effective and sustainable action.

“Flooding is a recurring problem that affects lives, livelihoods and infrastructure. We need to create well-coordinated, long-term strategies,” Awingan said.

Among the areas frequently affected during downpours are Barangay Pico and the Strawberry Farm area near the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center along the diversion road.

La Trinidad has been among the hardest-hit municipalities during recent weather disturbances, including typhoons "Crising," "Dante" and "Emong," as well as the southwest monsoon. In addition to severe flooding, the municipality has also experienced multiple landslides and rockslides.
