The Bureau of Immigration (BI) intercepted three alleged victims of human trafficking at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 last Wednesday as they attempted to depart for Spain.
The individuals, two men and a woman in their late 30s to early 40s, were stopped while boarding an Emirates flight. Immigration authorities flagged them due to inconsistencies in their travel documents and stated purpose of travel.
Initially, the passengers claimed to be working for a local tech company. However, during a secondary inspection, they admitted they were traveling to Spain seeking employment.
“They admitted to having paid more than 300 thousand Pesos for the recruitment to a contact they met on social media,” the BI said.
