
As a prelude to Davao City’s Kadayawan Festival, the Davao Watercolor Society (WDS) opened its 6th Annual Exhibition at the Atrium of Poblacion Market Central last July 21.
Titled “Kathang Guhit,” the art show featured over 150 works done in watercolor by 20 artists. A member of the International Watercolor Society, the group is composed of professionals in the field of the arts and architecture, as well as enthusiasts who wish to learn and master watercolor as a medium.
“We would like to thank Alsons Development Corporation for giving us this wonderful space at Poblacion. This is our first time to have our exhibit outside of our normal comfort zone and I am excited to welcome everyone to this show,” said DWS president Saldy Mascardo.
The exhibit featured diverse subjects and topics, all using watercolor.
“We want to share the beauty of watercolor and how it can be used to create works of art, covering various genres,” Saldy added.
Alsons’ assistant vice president for Business Development and Management, Jolla Amparo-Soriaga, shared their vision for Poblacion as a hub for local entrepreneurs, startup businesses, artisans and artists.
“If you remember a few years ago when Poblacion was not yet opened, we hosted the third Mindanao Art Fair here. It was so successful that when we finally opened Poblacion. People in Davao called this ‘The Museum’ because people remember this as a place for the arts.”
Lito Pepito, the founder, mentor and former president of WDS, shared heartwarming memories with the attendees at the event. Pepito reminisced about the significant progress the Davao Watercolor Society has made since its inception a decade ago.
The Kathang Guhit exhibit features works by Lito Pepito, Saldy Mascardo, Anthony Serafin, Dadai Joaquin, Lucas Rañola, Nina Custodio, Gilbert Miraflor, Paul Pepito, Patricia de Jesus, Cacho Ferrero, Banoi Reyno, April San Pedro, Orvil Bantayan, Honorato Corpin, Aimee Suarez, Jann Lynnard, Ging Lopez Balinas, Ivy Gleianne and Roots Up West, and will remain open until 4 August.
