The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) on Sunday voiced alarm over what it called the “dangerous mindset” of certain senators and representatives who believe the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision invalidating the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte can be ignored.

"The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) once again expresses its deep concern regarding the dangerous mindset of certain members of the Senate and the House of Representatives in saying that the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court invalidating the impeachment complaint against Vice-President Sara Duterte, may be disregarded, and that the impeachment trial may continue in spite of such a decision,” said Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, PDP spokesperson, in a statement.

Topacio said these lawmakers are relying on “dubious interpretations of the Constitution” or advice from “unnamed legal luminaries.”

“We must remind these persons that if they persist in their misguided plans, they will be liable for corrupt practices as defined under Sec. 3(a) of Republic Act 3019 for either 'persuading, inducing or influencing another public officer to perform an act constituting a violation of rules and regulations duly promulgated by competent authority,’” Topacio warned.

He added that such actions could constitute an offense “in connection with the official duties of the latter, or allowing himself to be persuaded, induced, or influenced to commit such violation or offense.”

Topacio stressed that under the Civil Code, Supreme Court decisions form part of the law of the land.

He said the PDP remains committed to its founding principles and stands ready to file criminal charges against public officials who violate the law.

“In the fullest support of the Judiciary and in order to uphold the rule of law in our country,” he added.
