A controversial social media post tied to an account claiming links to Israel’s Mossad has drawn international attention for making provocative accusations against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Farsi-language X account alleged that Khamenei spends much of his day sleeping and the rest under the influence of drugs. It also criticized Iran’s worsening domestic problems, citing water and electricity shortages.

The account, created last month with a verified premium badge, claimed to be the official Mossad spokesperson in Iran’s language. However, Israeli authorities have not confirmed any official affiliation with the post.

In its message, the account questioned Khamenei’s capacity to lead and claimed that drug use and spiritual conversations are not traits fitting for a national leader.

The post resurfaced earlier allegations, including a 2022 statement from an Iranian scholar on Turkish TV, which claimed that Khamenei uses drugs produced in a restricted area under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Ironically, drug use has been harshly punished in Iran, with Khamenei himself having previously declared it “un-Islamic.” Under Iranian law, drug offenses may carry the death penalty.
