The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of a possible storm surge in several coastal areas on Thursday.
In its 2 PM advisory, PAGASA said there is a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge within the next 24 hours. Residents along coastal communities are advised to take extra precautions due to high waves expected in several provinces and municipalities.
A storm surge of 2.1 to 3 meters is possible in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales, while a 1 to 2-meter surge is likely in Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Isabela.
Residents in or near these coastal areas are urged to stay away from the shoreline and cancel any planned marine activities.
PAGASA also advised public safety and disaster risk reduction offices to take appropriate action and implement precautionary measures to safeguard communities.
