DAVAO CITY — National University (NU) and University of the Philippines (UP) headline the participating squads in the coming 2025 Shakey’s Super League Invitational Volleyball tournament set from 1 to 3 August at the University of Southeastern Philippines gym.

Johnfort Monggao of Balebolista De Dabaw said Davaoeño volleyball enthusiasts will be treated to hard-hitting action as the Lady Bulldogs and the Fighting Maroons battle Notre Dame of Dadiangas and the city’s selection squad.

The selection squad will be composed of players from Ateneo de Davao University, Holy Cross of Davao College and University of Mindanao (UM).

“This will be exciting as we try to see how our local selection fares next to teams from Manila and one from Southern Mindanao,” Monggao said last Thursday at the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum.

Davao City selection team head coach JC Velasquez said they will do their best when they face the volleyball players from Manila.

“We will try our best to win since we will play as the hosts for this year’s tournament,” said Velasquez, who calls the shots for Ateneo de Davao.

Among the players of the select team are Kyle Esteves of Ateneo de Davao, Molly Fuentes of UM and Nicole Bacamante of Holy Cross.

“We already played with each other before so it would be lesser adjustments and more on jelling prior to the tournament,” Fuentes said.
