The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has reiterated that it will shoulder a significant portion of hospitalization costs for dengue and leptospirosis — two of the most common illnesses during the rainy season — as monsoon rains continue to cause widespread flooding across the country.
PhilHealth said its enhanced benefit packages now provide coverage of P19,400 for moderate dengue cases and P47,000 for severe cases. For leptospirosis, the updated benefit covers P21,450 worth of hospitalization.
These benefit improvements follow President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure accessible and meaningful healthcare for all Filipinos.
Aside from the financial support, PhilHealth also reminded the public to observe personal safety measures to avoid contracting waterborne diseases.
To prevent leptospirosis, the agency advised the public to avoid wading in floodwaters, always wash hands before meals and after restroom use, and drink only clean water. For dengue prevention, households should maintain clean surroundings and use mosquito repellents or nets.
