US President Donald Trump shared a fake, AI-generated video showing former President Barack Obama being arrested in the Oval Office on his Truth Social account on 21 July, as his administration renewed efforts to question the integrity of the 2016 election.

The video, originally posted on TikTok, is a manipulated clip depicts FBI agents storming into the Oval Office, forcing Obama to his knees and placing him in handcuffs as Trump watches with a smile. The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” plays in the background, followed by a fabricated scene of Obama in an orange jumpsuit inside a jail cell.

The start of the clip features authentic footage of prominent Democratic figures, including Obama and President Joe Biden, saying “no one is above the law.”

Trump has frequently shared AI-generated or altered media on his social media platforms. The resurfacing of the video coincides with new statements from his administration revisiting claims that the Obama White House tried to interfere with Trump’s 2016 campaign.

US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said last week that recently released documents show a conspiracy by senior Obama officials to influence the election. She announced plans to file a criminal referral with the FBI.

The latest intelligence report did not present new evidence of Russian election interference. It reaffirms earlier findings that from the Obama administration that there was no manipulation of voting systems or vote counts in 2016.

Democrats have criticized the renewed allegations as politically motivated and inconsistent with prior intelligence and Senate investigations.

The timing of the video also comes amid backlash within Trump’s base, following the Justice Department’s decision not to release the full trove of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents, a move that has caused frustration among some of Trump’s supporters.
