The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has partnered with the Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DoST-TAPI) to bring more Filipino-made inventions into the mainstream economy.

Through a memorandum of understanding signed on 15 July 2025, the two agencies aim to promote the use of locally developed technologies within PEZA-managed ecozones, while enabling micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to play a stronger role in industrial value chains.

The collaboration seeks to support the commercialization of government-funded innovations by providing MSMEs with technical guidance, market access, and financial assistance, positioning them to better compete in both domestic and global markets.

PEZA said the partnership is expected to help Filipino inventors and MSMEs integrate into the broader manufacturing and services ecosystem within ecozones. By tapping into these hubs of economic activity, local innovators can generate more value domestically and strengthen their participation in global supply chains.

Bridging research, marketability

DoST-TAPI Director Atty. Marion Ivy Decena noted that the initiative will help bridge the often-challenging gap between research and market readiness.

Also present at the MoU signing were PEZA Deputy Director General for Policy and Planning Anidelle Joy Alguso, PEZA Ecozone department manager Ludwig Daza, and DoST-TAPI Investment and Business Operation Division chief SRS Romeo M. Javate.

In a separate move to expand financial support for local inventors, DoST-TAPI also signed agreements with the Land Bank of the Philippines and the Korea Invention Promotion Association. LandBank president and CEO Ma. Lynette Ortiz and KIPA vice president Han Chang-hee represented their respective institutions.

The multi-agency pacts were formalized during Frontiers: Fostering Financial Partnerships for Filipino Inventors, a side event of PHILIPiNExT 2025: Philippines’ International Exposition of Technologies held at Okada, Manila.
