Thirteen Filipino seafarers who were part of the crew of M/V Bam Arion have safely returned to the Philippines after the vessel was detained in Rotterdam, Netherlands, over a legal case involving their employer.

The seafarers arrived Saturday aboard Qatar Airways Flight QR928 at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

The vessel has been detained in Rotterdam since May 17 in connection with the legal case.

During a welfare visit conducted by the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) overseas welfare office on June 17, the seafarers reported that they had not received their wages since May and were experiencing shortages in food supplies.

In response, the Migrant Workers Office in Berlin provided financial assistance. At the same time, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Berlin office distributed food packages as the seafarers awaited replenishment of supplies from their principal agency and employer.

Upon arrival, OWWA met and assisted the seafarers, in coordination with the DMW and the Manila International Airport Authority medical team.

They received food, financial aid, and transportation, as well as temporary accommodation if needed.

OWWA said its assistance would continue beyond the airport, with its regional welfare offices supporting the seafarers as they return to their communities and reunite with their families.
