Work in government and classes in public schools in Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Tuesday, 22 July, have been suspended due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon.
Apart from Metro Manila, the government also suspended work and classes in Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Occidental Mindoro.
Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla made the announcement on Monday upon the recommendation of Cabinet members and the Office of Civil Defense.
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed to Palace reporters that the recommendation to suspend was approved.
While government work is suspended, the delivery of essential services such as basic and health services, calamity and disaster response shall continue.
The DILG also warned of possible landslides to those who are living in steep areas.
The decision to suspend work in private companies remains with their respective heads.
On Monday, the government suspended work and classes in public schools, effective at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is currently monitoring twin low-pressure areas inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
PAGASA earlier projected that two or three tropical cyclones could develop within or enter PAR this July.
