SAGADA, Mountain Province — The Sagada Tourism Office has announced that select tourist spots in the town are now open, but advised visitors to observe necessary precautions due to ongoing weather disturbances.
Following recommendations from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), access to Lumiang and Sumaguing Caves is permitted only up to their entrances. Full spelunking remains prohibited to ensure public safety, as occasional rains continue to make conditions hazardous.
The Echo Valley, home to Sagada’s iconic hanging coffins, is open to visitors. The Marlboro-Blue Soil tour along the Sagada-Balili, Bontoc boundary is also allowed.
Tourists, especially those unfamiliar with the terrain, are strongly advised to watch out for slippery paths and muddy trails.
However, access to Bomod-ok Falls remains restricted out of respect for the local “ubaya” tradition — a cultural practice where communities close off areas to outsiders and impose community quarantine following rice planting, harvest seasons, or natural calamities.
