After claiming that plants scream at a sound frequency that humans can’t hear, a scientist from Tel Aviv University in Israel is now saying that insects and other animals can hear it.
Professor Yossi Yovel based his findings on an experiment with moths and tomato plants.
The tomato produced the sound through physical effects caused by a change in its local conditions, according to Yovel, the BBC reported.
In an experiment, the research team observed that moths lay eggs on tomatoes—except when they sense the plant’s sound indicating that it is dehydrated and under stress, which means it cannot properly nourish the insect’s larva.
The researchers published their findings in the journal eLife.
Meanwhile, other animals have a high sense of taste, and this behavior is obvious to humans.
Elias Herrera filmed his pet’s unusual appetite and posted the video on TikTok. The post went viral, raking in 70 million views in one week, according to Fox News.
The video titled “Trying to eat with Bruce!” shows Herrera eating a breakfast of banana, apple, milk, and a plate of pancakes. Bruce, the big, young ox, appears from behind as Herrera bites the banana and swallows the fruit.
He bites the apple, and the ox also grabs it with its mouth before quickly munching on the pancakes. A smiling Herrera puts on a token resistance as Bruce clears the table and peels another banana for the still-unsatisfied pet to eat.
Herrera produced other videos of Bruce’s pancake-feeding frenzy, sustaining the bovine’s newfound internet fame.
