DJ Fenner and Javi Gomez de Liaño combined for 36 points as Strong Group Athletics (SGA)beat Qatar, 81-54, for their third straight win in the 44th Wiliam Jones Cup at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Fenner finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and one assist, while Gomez de Liaño tallied 13 of his 18 points  in the second half as SGA is in pursuit of Bahrain, which sports a 4-0 win-loss record.

Head coach Charles Tiu once again credited the team's defense in containing the Qataris.

“Defense has been great for us. That’s what we’ve been preaching from day one. Defense wins championships."

"We held another team to below 60.”

Veteran guard Kiefer Ravena is expected to join SGA when they face Australia on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the same venue.

Ravena's arrival will be a much-needed boost for SGA as Tiu said his boys are already suffering some injuries.

“We're banged up right now,” admitted Tiu. “Tajuan (Agee) is hurting, (Andre) Roberson’s knee is swollen, Ian's (Miller) plantar is bothering him, and Rhenz's (Abando) hamstring might keep him out for the Australia game. Even Dave (Ildefonso) and Geo (Chiu) are fighting off illness. Jason (Brickman) is very fatigued as well.”
