Authorities on Sunday reported that the ride-sharing driver who was robbed and killed in Parañaque City in May died from two stab wounds to the left chest as revealed by an autopsy report.

However, investigators with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are still searching for a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon.

Three suspects, who are facing charges of robbery-homicide in connection with the death of TNVS driver Raymond Cabrera, underwent inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice on Saturday afternoon.

The suspects were later transported to the NBI detention facility in Muntinlupa City.

Despite the advanced state of decomposition of Cabrera’s body, authorities are 90 percent certain of his identity. His son positively identified the body based on the shoes Cabrera was wearing and a surgical screw in his arm, a result of a previous accident.

“He was positively identified through his shoes and his belongings. Plus, he had a screw on his arm when he had the accident. Through those things, his son positively identified him,” said NBI director Jaime Santiago.

The NBI is awaiting DNA test results but plans to release Cabrera’s remains to his family soon. Cabrera’s body was cremated in Tarlac City last Friday evening and taken to a funeral home in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.

Relatives are expected to claim his cremated remains on Monday.

To recall, the suspects — who surrendered to authorities Thursday evening due to safety concerns for their families after their identities were reported — sought forgiveness on Friday after leading investigators to the location where they dumped Cabrera’s body in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.

Cabrera reportedly picked up the suspects in Parañaque City on 18 May. The vehicle never reached its intended destination in Molino, Cavite, and was instead driven around the province.
