A barangay chairman in Tondo is facing a police complaint after allegedly firing his gun during a clearing operation in his jurisdiction Saturday morning.
Police identified the official as Barangay 122 Chairman Rodelio Yu y Castro, 57.
The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. along Amethyst Street during a clearing operation by barangay personnel. According to police reports, the team encountered resistance from some residents, leading to a heated argument.
Yu allegedly fired a warning shot into the air after tensions escalated between the clearing team and the Ramos family, whose property was reportedly affected by the operation.
The complainants were identified as members of the Ramos clan.
Following the gunfire, the family called Manila Police District Station 1, which responded promptly and arrested Yu. Officers recovered a black Armscor .45-caliber pistol loaded with three live rounds.
Yu presented a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence, a License to Own and Possess Firearms, and the firearm’s registration. Despite this, police said he may still face charges for illegal discharge of a firearm.
As of press time, Yu remains in police custody pending further investigation.
