Her triumph in the recent national election took many by surprise, primarily because she did not hail from a well-established political dynasty, nor did she possess the extensive campaign machinery typically necessary to effectively connect with and mobilize voters. Despite these significant challenges, she managed to secure an impressive tally of over one million votes. This remarkable achievement not only demonstrated her widespread appeal and the strong trust the electorate placed in her but also ultimately secured her the governorship of Cebu, marking a historic and inspiring milestone in the region’s political landscape.

Pamela Baricuatro, widely recognized and affectionately called “the people’s governor,” took her oath of office at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall in a heartfelt and intimate ceremony presided over by Judge Anna Marie Militante, who is not only a former high school classmate but also a trusted friend.

The event was marked by its simplicity and meaningfulness, reflecting the genuine connection and deep commitment she holds toward serving the community.

The affair was attended by national dignitaries, notable figures, business leaders, diplomatic corps, municipal mayors, councilors and barangay officials from across Cebu.

Baricuatro described the oath-taking as the start of a “new era” for Cebu emphasizing unity, transparency and service in her administration. She officially assumed office on 1 July 2025 with a formal inauguration that reflected austerity and community spirit avoiding extravagance to highlight humility and service to the people.

Her administration aims to foster harmonious ties with Cebu City, focusing on collaborative projects like resolving land issues and fast-tracking infrastructure such as the Metro Cebu Expressway.

Baricuatro also begun appointing key officials and advisers with former Secretary of the Department of Tourism Ace Durano as administrator.
