BAGUIO CITY — Earthquakes took place at different parts of the Cordillera.
At 12:48 a.m. Monday, a magnitude 3.8 earlier earthquake was felt by residents of Baguio City and the rest of Benguet. According to the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the center of the shake which has a depth of 010 kilometers was located at 16.23°North, 120.71°East- 014 km South 14° East of Itogon, Benguet.
At 3:35 a.m. of the same date, a 2.1 magnitude was also felt by residents of Abra. It has a depth of 007 km and was located at 17.84°N, 120.78°E-013 km N 18° W of the municipality of Tineg.
At 6:58 p.m. of 6 July, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at the province of Kalinga. Phivolcs reported that the location of the epicenter was at 17.47°N, 121.47°E-000 km S 66° E of Tabuk City.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Cordillera Field Office continues its monitoring regarding the effects of typhoon “Bising” with international name “Danas” and the southwest monsoon.
The region remains under blue alert as monitoring in the provinces is ongoing. Currently, the DSWD recorded 73 families or 168 individuals affected by the landslide in Barangay Virac, Itogon, Benguet that happened on 4 July 2025.
Itogon Mayor Bernard Waclin suspended classes at Acupan Elementary School. The school is being used as evacuation center especially by families affected by the landslide in Barangay Virac.
Authorities continue to advise residents in high places in the Cordillera especially those who living at landslide- prone areas to observe precautionary measures. The people are also urged to do preemptive evacuation if possible as rains continuously soak the soil because of the southwest monsoon.
