Gilas Pilipinas Women finished their 44th William Jones Cup campaign with a 57-76 loss to WUG CTUSF Training on Sunday at the Taipei Peace Basketball Stadium in Taipei, Taiwan.
With a 1-4 win-loss record, the Philippines finished in fifth place in the six-team competition and tied its record from the 2023 Jones Cup.
Wang Yue Shi paced WUG CTUSF with 14 points as the Taiwanese squad capped the campaign with a 3-2 card and is poised to finish with a medal.
After Gilas Women led 32-30 in the first half, the Taiwanese squad outscored the Philippines, 20-11, in the third quarter and led, 50-43, and never looked back.
The Taiwanese went 22-of-41 in two-pointers while also knocking down 14 out of 18 free throws.
Vanessa de Jesus led the Philippines with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Naomi Panganiban followed with 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting, along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Jack Animam was limited to seven points but grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Philippines will now shift its focus to the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Shenzhen, China from 13 to 20 July.
