SAN MATEO, RIZAL — A fire that broke out in the early hours of Sunday, 6 July 2025, claimed the lives of three family members inside their home in Barangay Ampid 1, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The blaze began around 2:00 AM in a two-story residential structure and was raised to first alarm status before being declared out at approximately 2:50 AM.
Fire responders later found the bodies of a 60-year-old woman, her 30-year-old daughter, and son-in-law inside the house. The elderly woman’s 64-year-old husband managed to survive by jumping from the terrace. He sustained first-degree burns and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
The younger couple was discovered inside the bathroom, while the older woman was located on the stairs. Initial reports indicate the victims were trapped inside and unable to escape. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
