Manila Police District (MPD) Police Station 2 officers rescued 14 minors found roaming the streets of Barangay 649, Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila, during curfew hours last Saturday night.
The operation, which began at 10 p.m., was conducted under the leadership of Lt. Col. Rommel Anicete, station commander of MPD-PS 13. Police on foot patrol rounded up the youth violators of the city’s curfew ordinance.
Reports said that the rescued minors were subsequently turned over to the barangay. According to protocol, they will then be endorsed to the Manila Social Welfare Department (MSWD) district office.
The MSWD will record their data and issue a first warning to their parents or guardians.
The curfew for minors under 18, prohibiting them from being on the streets between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., was established by an Executive Order issued by Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on his first day in office.
This directive follows city ordinances 8046, 8547 and 8182.
“Parents and guardians should remind children to refrain from loitering around in public places during protection hours,” Domagoso’s order states.
The Manila mayor has warned that parents of minors repeatedly rescued for curfew violations could face legal action.
