LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — A night out turned violent for a 20-year-old student who is now recovering in the hospital after he was stabbed during a heated altercation outside a club in Barangay 48-B early Saturday morning.
The victim, identified by sources as Christian Jaye Lorenzo Quilala from Dingras, was reportedly with friends when the incident unfolded around 5:40 a.m. Authorities have arrested the suspect — 20-year-old Eunhard Jhermaine Burgos Santos of Barangay 23, San Matias — who is now facing charges of frustrated homicide, according to the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO).
What started as a minor scuffle inside the club quickly escalated. Witnesses told the DAILY TRIBUNE that the suspect allegedly bumped into Quilala’s shoulder on purpose, sparking a brief argument. While the situation was defused inside, the suspect left with a chilling warning in Ilocano: “Iyuray na kami” — “Wait for us.”
Moments later, as Quilala and his companions stood outside waiting for a ride, the suspect returned on a motorcycle, reportedly shouting insults before approaching Quilala and stabbing him twice — once in the right forearm and again in the abdomen — using a folding tactical knife.
Quick-thinking bouncers and the victim’s friends managed to subdue the suspect until police arrived. Officers recovered an 8.5-inch black folding knife, which has since been submitted as evidence.
Quilala was rushed to the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery due to internal injuries. He remains confined as of this writing.
Police have confirmed that the suspect was processed at the Laoag City Police Station and has opted for a preliminary investigation. The case is now in the hands of the Office of the City Prosecutor, where charges of frustrated homicide have been officially filed.
