The Visayan Electric announced a power rate reduction for residential customers in Metro Cebu, with a P0.13 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) decrease reflected in the June–July billing cycle.

The new rate stands at P11.03/kWh, down from P11.16/kWh in May. This drop translates to an estimated P26 in savings for households consuming 200 kWh.

The company attributed the lower rates to decreased generation charges caused by declining electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). Reduced costs in the Ancillary Services-Reserve Market (AS-RM), which helps ensure grid reliability, also contributed to the adjustment.

While rates have dipped, Visayan Electric reminded consumers to stay energy-conscious to avoid unexpected bill spikes.

The utility firm also issued a safety advisory in light of the rainy season officially declared by PAGASA.

“This rainy season, let us make sure that our electrical appliances and connections are kept safe and away from areas that are exposed to the elements to avoid any electrical-related accidents,” said Visayan Electric OIC-President and General Manager Mark Kindica.
