The legal team of former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. is set to file a request with the courts to postpone all previously scheduled hearings, citing his ongoing recovery from an appendectomy.

This was based on a statement issued by Teves’ lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, who said the former lawmaker's medical condition has “improved slightly” following severe post-operative complications.

“After almost four days of not being able to take anything orally, he may now feed himself by mouth with soft foods,” Topacio revealed.

Topacio added that while Teves’ pain has eased, it remains present, and he is “slowly gaining strength” while continuing to receive round-the-clock monitoring and intravenous medications, including painkillers and antibiotics.

Teves was earlier admitted to the Philippine General Hospital for stomach pains before undergoing an appendectomy.

Topacio previously reported that Teves had experienced pain rated as “10/10” on the pain scale and was being nourished by intubation due to complications from the procedure.

Teves is facing multiple charges, including 10 counts of murder, 13 counts of frustrated murder, and five counts of attempted murder before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 51.

These charges are in connection with allegations that he masterminded the killing of Governor Roel Degamo.

Teves’ legal team said they anticipate his continued recovery in the coming days, “barring any unforeseen medical events.”

Topacio said, “In the meantime, we are asking the courts to defer all previously-scheduled hearings to dates starting two weeks henceforth.”
