At least seven taxi drivers operating at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were caught for multiple violations, according to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines on Wednesday.
In a radio interview, Ines said the MIAA, in coordination with the Airport Police Department (APD), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, has been conducting intensified 24/7 operations against erring taxi drivers since Sunday.
The violations included the use of tampered meters, illegal solicitation and contracting of passengers, expired franchises, and drivers operating without valid licenses.
Ines added that patrols are also being conducted beyond the terminal premises, as some drivers are allegedly soliciting passengers outside the airport terminal.
"Example is across the Terminal 3, near Savoy Hotel. So, we also patrol that area," he said.
Currently, 45 APD personnel are assigned to patrol the vicinity, with plans to deploy additional officers to further strengthen enforcement efforts.
"We do the inspections unannounced. Maybe they thought we were not serious, but we mean business," Ines stressed.
