Lopez-led First Gen Corp. (FGEN) is supporting Cebu Cube Ice Corp., a supplier of purified ice, in its transition to renewable energy through a renewed supply agreement that will power its Mandaue City facility with 100 percent clean electricity.

Under a newly signed agreement, FGEN will supply an average of 600 kilowatts of clean electricity monthly to Cebu Cube Ice, Cebu’s top producer of purified ice under the “Ice Man” brand. The actual volume will depend on the company’s demand and consumption.

“We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Cebu Cube Ice as they invest in decarbonizing their operations,” said Carlo Vega, FGEN’s chief customer engagement officer.

“This proves that large or small, any enterprise can find solutions to reduce their carbon footprint and use electricity more efficiently.”

Only purified ice

Founded in 1992, Cebu Cube Ice supplies purified ice to nearly 2,000 customers across the province, including top hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and convenience stores. It also operates multiple cold storage facilities to ensure 24/7 availability.

“Our company was keen to use renewable energy as part of our Good Manufacturing Practice and social responsibility,” said Cebu Cube Ice president and CEO Robert Tiu.

“We are proud to be manufacturing purified ice that uses the highest standards for safety and sanitation, but also with a lower carbon footprint which will help the environment.”

Cebu Cube Ice, an early adopter of the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), first partnered with FGEN in 2022.

GEOP allows large electricity consumers with a peak demand of 100 kilowatts or more to directly source power from renewable energy suppliers.
