Filipino travelers can continue visiting Taiwan without a visa, as Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a one-year extension of its visa-free entry program for Philippine passport holders.
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung made the announcement during remarks at the Philippine Independence Day celebration hosted by the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei on 13 June.
The announcement comes as Taiwan-Philippine relations continue to expand. In his remarks, Lin highlighted the growing cooperation in fields such as agriculture, energy, technology, and economic resilience. He also noted the importance of joint efforts in promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Tourism and migration between Taiwan and the Philippines remain robust. In 2023, some 415,000 Filipino tourists visited Taiwan — the largest number from any Southeast Asian country. Taiwan is also home to approximately 160,000 Filipino migrant workers contributing to various sectors of Taiwanese society.
The extension of the visa-free privilege is expected to further boost tourism, business, and cultural exchanges. Taiwan also hopes that the Philippines will consider extending similar privileges to Taiwanese travelers in the spirit of reciprocity.
