Vice President Sara Duterte publicly challenged Senator Imee Marcos to bring home her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity.

The vice president made the remark during the celebration of the Philippines’ 127th Independence Day on 12 June in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she was joined by Senators Imee Marcos and Robin Padilla.

In her speech, Duterte took a swipe at the Marcos administration, referencing the ICC case against her father.

“Hindi ako ang magbabalik kay dating Pangulong Duterte sa Pilipinas. Dahil ang kapatid mo ang nagpadala sa kaniya sa Hague, ikaw ang magbabalik sa kaniya sa Pilipinas,” she said, addressing Imee Marcos directly.

She quipped that the reason she always brings Senator Marcos along on trips is because she is her “hostage,” and will only be released once she fulfills the demand of bringing the elder Duterte home.

Duterte also expressed her dismay with how the current administration has handled her father’s case, saying she felt ashamed of the government’s actions.
