Senator Christopher “Bong” Go expressed pride and admiration for the Gilas Pilipinas Youth squad following its golden performance in the 2025 FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers recently.
Go, who serves as chairperson of both the Senate Committee on Sports and the Committee on Youth, praised the team’s performance and reaffirmed his legislative support for sports development at all levels.
Notably, he is one of the authors of a Senate resolution congratulating the team.
“Mr. President, let’s go to sports,” Go said.
“As chairman of the Committee on Sports and the Committee on Youth, and as one of the authors of a similar resolution, I would like to congratulate the Gilas Pilipinas Youth National Basketball Team for winning the gold medal in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA or the Southeast Asia Basketball Association Qualifiers last May 30, 2025.”
The senator emphasized the team’s undefeated run and their display of skill and excellence throughout the tournament.
“Mr. President, the team dominated the tournament with an undefeated record, demonstrating excellence, and superior skills, reflecting the Philippines’ deep basketball talent and passion for the sport,” he said.
Go also hailed the coaching staff and players who led the team to victory.
“Congratulations din po sa ating mga idol — Coach LA Tenorio, Gabe Norwood, Richard del Rosario — at sa lahat po ng members po ng team na nabanggit po kanina, ang ating MVP from Batangas, kababayan natin,” he said.
“At syempre, sa aking teammates sa Senate Sentinels, si Senator Joel Villanueva, ang ating former member po ng national team,” he added, citing Sen. Villanueva as main sponsor of the resolution.
The SEABA U16 Cup was held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando City, Pampanga from 24 to 30 May that featured six Southeast Asian teams.
