A total of 219 overseas Filipino workers and their families in Central Visayas received a much-needed boost as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW-7) rolled out ₱14.9 million in financial assistance this week.
Held in Cebu City, the initiative was part of the 30th National Migrant Workers Day celebration. The activity brought together government agencies and partner institutions to offer not only immediate support but also essential training on financial literacy, small business management, and migrant workers' rights.
Dubbed the "Releasing of Financial Assistance under the AKSYON Funds CUM Financial Awareness Seminar/Small Business Management Training and Migrant's Rights Awareness," the program aimed to empower recipients with tools for long-term financial security and resilience.
Each OFW or next of kin received between ₱50,000 and ₱100,000 under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo Para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) program. The assistance addressed various needs such as medical expenses, livelihood support, and burial costs, helping families recover from difficult experiences abroad.
The distribution was held at the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP), also known as PESO Cebu City. Partner agencies that contributed to the success of the event included Land Bank of the Philippines, the Commission on Human Rights, and DMDP/PESO Cebu City. Their involvement reflected a united effort to support OFWs through a comprehensive and inclusive approach.
