A former teammate of Carlos Yulo in Japan will be looking to take his individual all-around medal in the 12th Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, South Korea.
Four-time Paris Olympics champion Shinnosuke Oka enters the Asian Championships as a clear favorite to dominate the tournament and win every medal available after his triumph last year.
Yulo, who will enter his first competition after 10 months, and Shinnosuke, were teammates in Japan in the Tokushukai Gymnastics club when the Filipino gymnast was still training under Munehiro Kugimiya.
In fact, both gymnasts returned to their former stomping grounds last year after the Summer Games and showed off their shiny gold medals.
“Thank you so much to the Tokushukai Gymnastics Club. Thank you very much for your kind support and encouragement. Being able to train with great friends like you is a great motivator for me,” Yulo said in a previous story.
Now, former teammates will once again set aside their friendship as they both give their all for their respective countries.
