The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) placed Filipino creativity at centerstage anew with Food Festival 2025, a three-day gastronomic celebration that went beyond food to embrace innovation, digitalization and national identity.
Held from 30 May to 1 June at SM Megamall’s Megatrade Halls 1–3, this year’s festival gathered over 250 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, each presenting a taste of the Philippines’ rich culinary and cultural heritage.
More than a showcase of delicacies, the festival was a strategic platform for transformation — a tangible expression of the Tatak Pinoy Strategy Program, designed to equip Filipino MSMEs with the tools to thrive in the digital age.
Gateway to creativity and commerce
One of the event’s key highlights was the launch of the DTI Malikhaing Pinoy Website, dubbed the “National Gateway to Filipino Creativity and Business.” This new digital platform anchors the DTI B2B Marketplace, serving as a conduit between Filipino MSMEs and global markets.
The website introduces three main features:
Connect – a comprehensive registry of creative professionals and organizations;
Learn – an educational hub offering workshops, courses, and masterclasses in creative disciplines;
Thrive – a support center linking MSMEs to funding and capacity-building programs.
Through these pillars, DTI strengthens the foundations of the Philippine Gastronomy Creative Industry, enhancing its visibility and market reach while nurturing its creative core.
Celebrating Filipino foodways
Festival-goers were treated to curated regional exhibits, live cooking demonstrations and the launch of the Kayumanggi Heritage Recipe Book, a culinary tribute to indigenous Filipino flavors and techniques. Each booth and activity celebrates the unique stories behind the ingredients and processes that define Filipino food.
In a nod to global recognition, the festival also honored Iloilo City’s recent designation as a UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy, highlighting its contribution to the preservation and innovation of traditional Filipino cuisine.
Empowerment through digital tool
The festival featured a Digital Collaboration Zone, where MSMEs could connect with technology and e-commerce partners offering solutions in digital payments, logistics, online marketing and more. This initiative aimed to future-proof Filipino food enterprises by facilitating access to platforms and systems that drive growth and resilience in an increasingly digital economy.
By encouraging heritage-driven product development and digital integration, the DTI hopes to foster a new generation of food entrepreneurs — ones who are as grounded in cultural identity as they are agile in technology.
A national mission with a fresh flavor
While distinct from the DTI’s National Food Fair, Food Festival 2025 complements its mission to uplift Filipino MSMEs by focusing on experiential and creative gastronomy. It is a bold step forward in reimagining food not just as a commodity, but as a vehicle for storytelling, innovation and global engagement.
With participants from regions like Western Visayas, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON and the NCR, the festival paints a comprehensive picture of a country whose flavors are as diverse as its islands — and whose entrepreneurs are ready for the world stage.
