Athletes from the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and Spikers’ Turf were recognized at the inaugural PVL Press Corps Awards held Wednesday, 28 May, at Novotel Manila Araneta City.
Organized by a group of digital and print journalists covering the leagues, the event honored top performers from both the women’s and men’s volleyball tournaments. PVL president Ricky Palou emphasized that the night was not only about individual excellence but also about celebrating the entire community behind the scenes.
“Tonight, we shine the spotlight on those who stood tallest, leapt highest, and dug deepest. In truth, each of you—every player, coach, staff member, and team—emerged victorious,” Palou said in his remarks.
The PVL Press Corps also gave a special citation to ArenaPlus, one of the league’s major sponsors, in recognition of its continued support for volleyball and the sporting community.
PVL Press Corps president Lance Agcaoili reflected on the league’s early days, recalling its 2021 debut in a bubble format in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, during the height of the pandemic.
“Tonight wasn’t just about celebrating greatness—it was about honoring the journey,” he said. “From an empty arena to record-breaking crowds and unforgettable matches, we celebrate it all.”
ArenaPlus, now a major name in sports betting, was cited for its role as a sports advocate and supporter of local leagues. In a statement, the company said it views sports as a bridge toward unity and shared goals, adding that it hopes its partnership with PVL continues to help inspire the community.
