Authorities arrested a 28-year-old woman on Monday afternoon after she claimed a parcel containing over P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City.
The Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed Tuesday that the parcel — which arrived from Ontario, Canada and was declared as “ladies wear and bags” — was flagged during routine x-ray screening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
A joint inspection by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group led to the discovery of approximately 1,008 grams of suspected shabu concealed within.
The woman, identified only as “Ruth” by PDEA, presented valid identification when claiming the parcel. She told authorities she was unaware that it contained illegal drugs.
PDEA reported that the suspected shabu was found in several self-sealing transparent plastic bags wrapped in foil and cling wrap, totaling about one kilogram.
Authorities also confiscated a mobile phone, a notice card, and several identification cards, including one bearing the consignee’s name and others found to be fake and under different identities.
