Major upgrades are underway at the Iloilo International Airport under a joint development program by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
According to CAAP on Tuesday, ₱190 million in funding — sourced from the DOTr’s 2024 General Appropriations Act — has been allocated to improve airport infrastructure and passenger services.
The project is divided into two components. The first, with a budget of P132.90 million, covers the rehabilitation of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), including civil and structural repairs, architectural upgrades, and mechanical and electrical improvements such as new air-conditioning units, lighting, fire alarm systems, and the installation of new escalators and elevators.
The second component, worth P37.55 million, involves the installation and commissioning of three new 600-kilowatt chillers to improve temperature control in the terminal.
Currently, the PTB can accommodate 367 domestic and 360 international passengers. Upon completion, these capacities are expected to increase to 675 and 407, respectively.
Additional projects slated for this year include another PTB rehabilitation worth P141.11 million, an asphalt overlay of the runway amounting to P550 million, and procurement of overlay works worth P49.98 million.
