Buriram United goalkeeper Neil Etheridge is still open to compete for the Philippine national men’s football team in international tournaments should he be invited.

The 35-year-old Etheridge said he is still ready to play for the Nationals but it will all boil down to the coaching staff, which is currently led by interim coach Carles Cuadrat after replacing former mentor Albert Capellas.

Etheridge capped a fruitful 2024-2025 season with Buriram, winning titles in the Thai League 1, FA Cup., League Cup, and the Shopee Cup.

“It's not my decision. I made it quite clear in my last interview that I haven't retired,” Etheridge said.

“I'm still up for selection. From what I've heard is that Albert's (Capellas) assistant took over.”

“I haven't really spoken to anyone, to be honest.”

Etheridge has a lot of experience competing with the Philippines in various international competitions.

For one, he was the starting goalkeeper when the Philippines made its debut in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Etheridge is also the first Southeast Asian footballer to play in the Premier League with Cardiff City FC in the 2018-2019 season.

Etheridge is also happy to see more Filipino players competing overseas to sharpen their skills.

“I think that's a great thing. I always said to get experience where you can,” Etheridge said.
