The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has launched an investigation into a P1.4-billion land acquisition deal that allegedly moved forward without the approval of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) board.
Newly appointed OWWA Administrator Patricia Caunan confirmed the probe during a forum on Saturday, stating that it includes former administrator Arnell Ignacio. The property in question was reportedly intended for a dormitory-type facility or "halfway house" for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“Secretary Hans Cacdac made a statement already,” Caunan said. “As the new administrator of OWWA, we will perform the necessary audit, seek the required legal opinion from the Department of Justice."
“We are investigating many people, and Secretary Hans is on top of it as board chairman since late last year,” she added in Filipino.
