In a world where fame often eclipses the personal, Marian Rivera-Dantes stands out not just as an acclaimed actress, beauty icon and multi-awarded star — but as a mother whose deepest role is grounded in quiet strength, unwavering love and intentional presence.

This Mother’s Day, Marian’s journey reminds us that behind the glamour is a woman whose greatest achievement is being “Mama” to Zia and Sixto.

A legacy of love and lessons

Marian’s devotion to her children is more than visible — it’s lived. From waking them up with morning hugs to tucking them in at night, she cherishes every moment. “They are my priorities in life,” she says with conviction. “I adjust everything — my work, my schedule —around them. That’s my greatest contribution as a mother.”

It’s a choice rooted in her own upbringing. Raised by her grandmother Francisca Rivera in Bacoor, Cavite after her parents separated, Marian learned early the value of resilience, gratitude and grace. “My Nanay taught me never to hold a grudge. She brought me to Baclaran for devotion, walking on our knees toward the altar. That grounded me,” she recalls. These moments, she says, shaped her into the mother she is today — devoted, hands-on and present.

Strength in simplicity

Despite her high-profile life, Marian encourages simplicity in her children. She delights in her daughter Zia’s independence and clear sense of self. “Zia used to twin with me, but now she chooses her own outfits. One time, I bought her a rainbow-colored dress for a school performance. She smiled and said, ‘That’s too much, Mama. I just want something simple.’ And I respected that.”

And then there’s Sixto — the “chill” one, who loves Lego, football and hugs. “When I’m about to lose my temper, he’ll say, ‘Mom, no. Say it nicely. Let’s love each other,’” Marian shares, laughing. “Then he hugs me, and we’re okay again.”

The healing heart of a mother

As a nurse by training and a fierce advocate for wellness, Marian is also known for promoting breastfeeding, even donating her own breast milk to babies in need. Her nurturing spirit extends beyond her home, often offering guidance to fellow mothers and speaking candidly about parenting challenges, especially when it comes to health. “We can’t avoid sickness,” she says, “but I always explain to my kids why they need medicine, why we eat healthy. They deserve to understand.”

Discovering herself through motherhood

Marian believes motherhood isn’t just about teaching — it’s also about learning. “From Zia, I learned simplicity. From Sixto, I learned how to stay calm.” Even in solitude, Marian finds clarity. She recalls one school event where she sat alone, watching her children. “There were many tables, many parents with friends. But I was alone—and I felt peace. I realized that I’m strong on my own.”

Marian also emphasizes the importance of freedom at home. She and her husband, actor Dingdong Dantes, believe in letting their kids make their own decisions — guided always by respect and love. “We want to raise them to become kind, respectful individuals.”
