The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division on Thursday disqualified Pasig lone district representative candidate Christian “Ian” Sia over lewd and sexist remarks he made against single mothers during his campaign.
Sia is the only candidate so far to receive two show cause orders from the Comelec Task Force Safe.
The first order was issued after Sia made a controversial joke targeting single mothers during a campaign sortie.
“Once a year, single mothers still get their periods and feel lonely. Once a year, you can sleep with me,” Sia, who is running under the Team Kaya This slate, said in Filipino at one of his campaign events.
The second show cause order stemmed from remarks that appeared to fat shame his former assistant, who is also a woman.
Despite the disqualification ruling, Sia still has the option to appeal the Comelec’s decision.
If he wins the most votes in the upcoming election, his proclamation will be put on hold until a final ruling is made on his case.
